According to the different tool changing methods, the tool rest systems of CNC lathes mainly include rotary tool rests, row-type tool rests and automatic tool changing devices with tool magazines. The following three types of tool rests are briefly described introduce.
1. Row type tool holder
Row-type tool holders are generally used for small-scale CNC lathes, mainly for processing bar or disc parts. Its structure is:
The toolholders holding various tools for different purposes are arranged on the transverse sliding plate along the X coordinate axis of the machine tool. This kind of tool holder is more convenient in terms of tool arrangement and machine tool adjustment. According to the turning process requirements of specific workpieces, various tools for different purposes can be combined arbitrarily. After a tool completes the turning task, the lateral slide only needs to follow the program along the X axis. After moving the preset distance, the second tool will reach the processing position, thus completing the tool change of the machine tool. This tool change method is quick and time-saving, which is beneficial to improve the production efficiency of the machine tool.
2. Rotary tool holder
Rotary tool rest is the most commonly used typical tool change tool rest of CNC lathes. Generally, the automatic tool change action of the machine tool is realized by hydraulic system or electricity. And install 4, 6 or more knives accordingly. The tool change action of the rotary tool rest can be divided into several steps, such as the lifting of the tool rest, the indexing of the tool rest and the locking of the tool rest. Its action is completed by the command issued by the numerical control system. According to the relative position of the rotary axis of the tool holder and the bottom surface of the installation, the rotary tool rest is divided into two types: vertical tool rest and horizontal tool rest.
3. Automatic tool changer with tool magazine
It is impossible to install too many tools on the above-mentioned row-type tool rest and rotary tool rest. Even if two tool rests are equipped, the number of tools is limited to a certain extent. When a large number of tools are required for some reason, an automatic tool changer with a tool magazine should be used. The automatic tool changer with tool magazine consists of a tool magazine and a tool exchange mechanism.
