It is easy to drill deep holes with long warps. The inserts are symmetrical with center centered double edge cutting, so it is possible to drill deep holes up to 20D. Deep holes that cannot be drilled by U-drills or shallow drills can be drilled by spade drills.
Shovel drilling can be widely used in traditional machine tools such as rocker arm drills. Due to the low spindle speed, poor rigidity and weak power of traditional machine tools, general rapid drilling, U-drilling and other drills with carbide inserts cannot be used. Shovel drills use cobalt-containing high-speed steel coated inserts with high toughness and impact resistance, which can effectively solve the problem of chipping.
The drilling accuracy of the spade drill is much higher than that of the U-drill, which is fitted with two asymmetric cutting inserts. When the cutter body cuts into the surface of the workpiece, the axial force on the outer and inner cutting edges of the cutter body is unbalanced, which will inevitably cause dimensional changes, so the U-drill can only be used as a roughing tool, with an accuracy of ±0.1mm. the symmetrical cutting blade of the Shovel Drill, the dimensional accuracy can be controlled within 5 filaments. The direct drilling can reach the requirement of threaded bottom hole. The side of the spade drill insert has a dressing edge band, through the extrusion of the dressing edge band, the finish of the processed hole wall can reach RA1.6.
